Diamond Crown was one of the first super premium cigars, coming to market in the early 90’s. It is the finest cigar made by JC Newman featuring a mild to medium-body with a subtle sweet and creamy flavors. Not many companies in any industry have been around for 100 years, but the cigar industry is different and so is JC Newman. For over fifty years, Stanford Newman of the JC Newman Cigar Company has been overseeing his family’s cigar business that was founded in the 19th century. In honor of the company’s 100th anniversary, Stanford wanted to culminate his time in the business by creating the smoothest yet most flavorful cigar JC Newman had ever rolled. He gave no consideration to cost or time, seeking only perfection and not accepting failure. To create such a cigar he approached Carlos Fuente, maker of some of the most famous and highly regarded brands in the world including OpusX, Ashton and Fuente. Using the highest-grade tobacco and the most skilled rollers at the Fuente Factory, Stanford Newman’s dream became a reality when Diamond Crown cigars debuted in the early 1990’s. Today the cigar is as popular as ever. It features a Connecticut wrapper that is absolutely seamless over a smooth Dominican filler. The cigar is mild to medium-bodied, and very creamy and flavorful. Without a doubt, Diamond Crown is one of the best made premium cigars being made in the Dominican Republic.
In 1991, Stanford Newman first discussed his idea about making a Super Premium cigar, the DIAMOND CROWN, with Carlos Fuente Sr. In celebration of his J.C. Newman Cigar Company's upcoming 100th Anniversary, Stanford wanted to develop a truly exceptional series of cigars unlike any other on the market. He didn't care what it would cost, how much time it took, or even if it would sell. Stanford was in his mid 70s and he wanted to culminate his 50+ years in the cigar business by creating the smoothest, most flavorful, full-bodied cigar possible.
Stanford knew that if he wanted to deliver the richest, yet most consistent full-flavored cigar possible, he would have to make the DIAMOND CROWN a thick cigar. The larger ring, which would allow for the blending of 6-7 individual tobacco leaves (an extremely complex blend of tobaccos), assured the maximum flavor of each cigar. The largest ring sizes of traditional handmade cigars ranged as high as 50 or 52, but Stanford knew that nothing less then a ring gauge of 54 would produce his intended results. That is why every DIAMOND CROWN ROBUSTO series cigar ranging from the 8 1/2" ROBUSTO No.1 down to the 4 1/2" ROBUSTO No. 5, are made with a 54 ring. The DIAMOND CROWN ROBUSTO PYRAMID No. 7 is even a 54 ring, an achievement that only the most experienced and talented cigar rollers can accomplish. A 7 3/4" by 54 ring pyramid cigar is truly a testament to the talented rollers of Tabaclaera A. Fuente in the Dominican Republic.
One of the factors that makes the taste of DIAMOND CROWN cigars so special is its exclusive Connecticut Fermented Wrapper (CFW). Unlike most other quality tobacco wrappers that are normally hung in barns, dried, and bulked for a single fermentation prior to being packed in bales and eventually rolled into cigars, DIAMOND CROWN'S CFW wrapper goes through a second fermentation. Specially fermented five year old wrapper leaves are unpacked from the bale and then conditioned and graded. The silkiest, smoothest leaves are then selected and placed in bulks for a second fermentation. It is this "second curing " that evens and develops the rosado color of the tobacco wrapper and also accounts for much of DIAMOND CROWN'S sweet, smooth, rich flavor.
